We are excited to present our February Mission Ambassadors: The National Charity League (NCL), Inc., North Austin Chapter. NCL is a group of mothers and daughters who participate in community service, leadership development, and cultural experiences alongside each other.
To help daughter-members adopt leadership skills and to promote social awareness, the group volunteers to support a variety of local nonprofits. NCL North Austin began partnering with Meals on Wheels Central Texas in 2015, volunteering to support our Second Saturday HOPE and PALS program distributions.
Together, the mother-daughter duos sort and distribute our HOPE bags which contain a month’s worth of shelf-stable food items that provide supplemental food support for neighbors in need. These groceries help prevent local hunger and malnutrition amongst the older adult homebound community in Central Texas.
Our volunteers are essential in helping us meet our neighbors’ varied needs. Volunteer time translates directly into support that helps our neighbors maintain their independence.
Like most Meals on Wheels volunteers, the NCL members share how volunteering to support older Central Texans serves them just alike. One mother-member, Sarah, says, “It is an eye-opening experience for the kids to get to see the need in the world and how they can help.” Second Saturday offers an opportunity for NCL members to work together, experience a bonding moment, and work towards a healthier, happier community.
