Volunteerism & Service FAQ

Yes, volunteers are our lifeblood and we welcome volunteers to assist with meal delivery and other services. We cannot fulfill our mission without volunteers. Interested individuals can sign up through our website at https://www.mealsonwheelscentraltexas.org/get-involved/volunteer.

Volunteer schedules are flexible and can be tailored to each individual’s availability, whether it's once a week, once a month, or as needed.

Meal delivery routes are designed to be completed in an hour or less and we offer pick-up sites across Central Texas so you can pick up at a location that is convenient for you.

Yes! We love “Delivery Teams” and will work with you to set one up that works for your group. Team deliveries can also be a great way to build closer teams, whether you all work together in an office or remotely around the region.

Yes! Whether you’d like to volunteer as a Meal Manager, with our Groceries To Go, HOPE, or PALS programs, or if you’d like to volunteer in our offices on an on-going or special-projects basis, we are always looking for dedicated volunteers to assist us with our mission. Reach out to volunteerwithus@mowctx.org to learn more.

Volunteers are needed and wanted in nearly every program and department of Meals on Wheels Central Texas. Particularly high needs exist in Volunteer Recruitment and Volunteer Activities, Neighbor Outreach and Support, Fundraising and Communications, Information Technology, Human Resources, and Facilities Services, but if you have a passion or skill outside of those areas, please reach out to us at volunteerwithus@mowctx.org and we’d love to work with you!

In most cases, volunteers use their own vehicles for meal deliveries. However, in some areas, deliveries can be made on foot or via bike or public transportation. Volunteers working in our offices or on special projects may or may not need a car depending on their role, but rarely is a car required to be involved with us.

Yes, to ensure the safety of our neighbors and to comply with state and federal licensing requirements, volunteers and employees of Meals on Wheels Central Texas must undergo a background check as part of the application process.
